Fiber optics may seem like a good choice for cars, but they have some drawbacks that could hinder their widespread adoption. Fiber optic lines use pulses of light to transmit data through glass or plastic fibers, which means they do not generate electromagnetic radiation and are less susceptible to interference from other sources. However, power cannot be transmitted over fiber optic data lines, which means that components require additional power transmission. Optical fibers tend to be expensive and require transceivers to convert electrical signals into light pulses. Its manufacturing process cost is also high.
