The design works with small space-saving ceramic capacitors, but most common capacitors can be used as long as the ESR value is considered. The ESR of the output capacitor affects the stability of the LDO control loop. To ensure stable operation of the LDO, it is recommended to use a capacitor of at least 1μF with an ESR of 1Ω or less.
The output capacitance also affects the transient response to load current changes. Using a larger output capacitor value can improve the LDO’s transient response to large load current changes.Previously, data was important for “instant” functionality.
