Shown is the transient response of the ADP151 with output capacitor values of 1µF, 10µF, and 20µF. Because the bandwidth of the LDO control loop is limited, the output capacitor must supply most of the load current required for fast transients. A 1µF capacitor cannot supply current for very long and produces a load transient of about 80mV. The 10µF capacitor reduces load transients to about 70mV. Increasing the output capacitance to 20µF allows the LDO control loop to capture and actively reduce load transients.
