Rack and pinion steering gear
The rack-and-pinion steering gear usually consists of a steering gear, a steering rack, a housing and a preload adjustment device.
The steering gear is supported in the housing through a bearing. One end of the steering gear is connected to the steering shaft to input the steering control force of the driver, and the other end is directly meshed with the steering rack to form a pair of transmission pairs, which are driven by the steering rack to drive the steering gear. Tie rod to turn the steering knuckle. In order to ensure the backlash-free meshing of the rack and pinion, the pressing force generated by the compensation spring presses the steering gear and the steering rack together through the pressure plate. The spring preload can be adjusted by adjusting the stud.
Since the rack-and-pinion steering gear is a reversible steering gear, it has high positive and reverse efficiency, strong automatic return ability, and good road feel. The rack-and-pinion steering gear has the advantages of simple structure, convenient processing, reliable operation, long service life and no need to adjust the clearance of the rack and pinion, so it has been widely used. However, due to its high reverse efficiency, the road impact can be transmitted back to the steering wheel, which is easy to beat when driving on bad roads.
