The harness design process must consider several factors in order to optimally integrate the harness into the vehicle architecture. The wiring harness is expected to operate for about 20 years under the same parameters without changing the connections between components, so the design process must ensure the quality and reliability of the product. To do this, the design process must take into account the quality of the components that make up the wiring harness and the materials from which they are made (banned substances that must not be contained and will be banned in the coming years) in the countries where the product is sold or known.
The design of the wiring harness starts with the realization of the electrical wiring diagram, which includes all electrical and electronic devices, and the electrical connections between them. Based on their operational requirements, important technical aspects are identified through electrical studies such as:
the wire diameter required to ensure an optimal connection;
The size (rating) of the fuse protecting the wire;
relay caliber;
Decided to use twisted wire instead of single wire where appropriate to eliminate EMI.
