The potential of DPUs
A new SoC (System On Chip) chip called DPU is a programmable multi-core CPU. It adheres to industry standards, has a powerful computer, and a high-performance network interface that can efficiently parse, process data at a high rate, and transport data to the CPU and GPU.
The primary distinction between a DPU and a CPU is that a CPU excels at general-purpose computing tasks (any task can be connected, making it more “complex”), whereas a DPU excels at basic layer application tasks (doing specific tasks, making it more “focused”), such as processing network protocols, calculating exchange routing, encrypting and decrypting data, and other “dirty work.”
