It is used for the input filter capacitor of DC/DC switching regulated power supply. Because the switching converter draws energy from the power supply in the form of pulses, a large high-frequency current flows through the filter capacitor. When the equivalent series resistance (ESR) of the electrolytic capacitor is large , it will generate a large loss, resulting in heating of the electrolytic capacitor. Low-ESR electrolytic capacitors, on the other hand, can significantly reduce the heating caused by ripple (especially high-frequency ripple) currents.
