Power Semiconductors – Powertrain Electrification Brings Diversification of Raw Materials
At present, IGBTs (insulated gate bipolar transistors) used in electric vehicles generally use silicon (Si) as the main material, while next-generation wide-bandgap semiconductor materials such as silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) are more suitable for high voltage, high switching frequency and low loss requirements, so it is more in line with the requirements of future electric vehicles such as fast charging and cruising range improvement. Among them, SiC technology is relatively mature and has been applied to Tesla Model 3; while GaN technology is not yet mature.
