Adopting new technologies is not an end but an outcome. There are many roads to the end, but the shortest road is often only the narrow one. Taking the evolution of electrical architecture as an entry point, we will deeply analyze how technical requirements drive the development of the lowest-level electrical architecture of vehicles, and the possible impact of electrical architectures based on semiconductor devices on the automotive industry. When discussing the difference between traditional power distribution boxes and electronic smart power distribution boxes, it is not to say that “electronics must be safer”, but to say that “the upper limit of safety can be higher”.
