Anti-lock braking systems improve vehicle stability and braking performance in most braking situations. The system automatically “pulses and releases” the brakes during emergency braking to avoid wheel locking.
Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) prevents overbraking of the rear wheels and gives greater control over the effective braking force applied to the rear axle.
At speeds above 11 km/h (7 mph), you may also hear a subtle click and some motor noise. These noises are a sign of the system doing periodic self-checks to make sure the anti-lock braking system is working properly. This self-check is performed every time the vehicle starts and accelerates above 11 km/h (7 mph).
Under certain road or braking conditions, the vehicle will activate the anti-lock braking system during braking. Anti-lock braking systems can be activated in road conditions including icing, snow, gravel, bumps, railroad tracks, loose rock formations, or emergency braking.
