Passive cooling is helped by “potting” material around the power terminals to remove heat. However, adding potting materials or heat sinks can make it more difficult to build wiring harnesses or repair interfaces. On the other hand, although potting materials or heat sinks can remove heat from the terminal, this passive cooling method can only dissipate heat through the surrounding air and cannot further cool it down. As a result, most of the heat resides in the block of material, especially at higher ambient temperatures.
