Start-up car companies face more pressure as they race to get products to market. Startups lack the foundation of traditional design and the resources needed to custom-engineer parts for optimal performance. Without these resources, engineers at these companies must adopt a bottom-up design approach, in which off-the-shelf parts need to be adjusted to meet functional requirements. Startups also lack mature change management and tracking procedures. While established OEMs have more established change management processes, they often rely on manual data entry and communication between teams. This results in data exchanges that are not only inefficient, but also highly error-prone.
