Valve kick
Phenomenon:
When the engine is idling, there is a rhythmic “clicking” sound inside the cylinder head cover.
The engine speed increases and the noise increases.
When the engine temperature changes or a misfire test is performed, the sound remains unchanged.
Reason:
Improper adjustment of valve clearance
The tail end of the valve stem and the valve clearance adjustment screw are worn.
The lock nut of the valve clearance adjustment screw is loose.
Cam wear or rocker arm arc working surface wear.
Diagnosis and exclusion:
Remove the cylinder head cover, check whether the lock nut of the valve clearance adjustment screw is loose; check the valve clearance value, and readjust as necessary.
Check the wear on the end face of the valve stem and the adjusting screw, and replace the valve or adjusting screw if necessary.
Check the wear of the cam and rocker arm arc working surfaces, and replace the camshaft or rocker arm as necessary.
