Putter
The function of the push rod is to transmit the thrust from the camshaft through the tappet to the rocker arm, which is the most flexible part in the valve train. High stiffness is required, and in an engine with a large dynamic load, the push rod should be made as short as possible. For an engine in which the cylinder block and cylinder head are made of aluminum alloy, the pushrod is preferably made of duralumin. The putter can be solid or hollow. Steel solid push rods are generally forged as a whole with spherical bearings and then heat treated.
