SPI working in wait mode is a configurable low-power mode that can be controlled by the SPISWAI bit in the SPICR2 register. In wait mode, if the SPISWAI bit is cleared to 0, the SPI operation is similar to run mode. If the SPISWAI bit is set, the SPI enters a low power state and the SPI clock is turned off. If the SPI is configured as a master, all transfers will stop, but will restart after the CPU enters run mode. If the SPI is configured as a slave, it will continue to receive and transmit a byte, thus ensuring that the slave is synchronized with the master.
