The role of the terminating resistor:
Impedance matching, matching the impedance between the signal source and the transmission line, with very little reflection and avoiding oscillation.
Reduce noise, reduce radiation, and prevent overshoot. In the case of series application, the series terminal resistance, the distributed capacitance of the signal line and the input capacitance of the subsequent circuit form an RC filter, which weakens the steepness of the signal edge and prevents overshoot.
