The manufacturing method and package size affect a capacitor’s equivalent series inductance. A capacitor with the same package size and from the same manufacturer has essentially the same equivalent series inductance. Capacitors in wide-body packages often have lower equivalent series inductance than those in narrow-body packages, and vice versa. Capacitors in compact packages typically have higher equivalent series inductance.
Since the capacitor can be thought of as an RLC series circuit, the Q value, another crucial element when utilizing capacitors, is also present.
