The traces above the evolution of automotive Ethernet show two responses: the red line shows the response from connecting an unqualified waveguide to a known qualified waveguide; the blue line shows the response from connecting two qualified waveguides together . As you can see from the blue line, even connecting two known good waveguides together, the adapter will cause a lot of loss (about 0.73 dB in this example). The lower traces show the difference between the measurements of the qualified and unqualified waveguides. From 18 GHz to 20.5 GHz, the difference is close to 4 dB. The average deviation is 1.93 dB over the entire span from 18 GHz to 26.5 GHz.
